Smaller Deals Part of Edwards� Bigger Growth Plan Edwards Lifesciences Corp.�s been on a shopping spree in which it�s picked up a number of smaller products as part of its larger bid to expand beyond its core heart valve business. Since 2001, Irvine-based Edwards has acquired three product lines, licensed three others and signed on to distribute another. The deals are relatively small for Edwards, Orange County�s largest medical device maker with 2002 sales of $704 million and a recent market value of $1.8 billion. » Click Here for full story « |

�Fishy� Strategy: Ask to be Sued California Attorney General Bill Lockyer has sued 15 restaurant chains, including two based in Orange County. But they�re not exactly singing the blues. �We asked the attorney general to do what he�s doing,� said Steele Platt, founder and chief executive of Irvine-based Yard House Restaurants LLC. The company was named in one of two suits Lockyer recently filed in the Los Angeles County and San Francisco Superior Courts. The state alleges Yard House and other chain owners, including Irvine-based Claim Jumper Enterprises Inc., violated the state�s Proposition 65 by failing to warn diners about carcinogenic mercury and related compounds in certain seafood: shark, swordfish, tuna, king mackerel and tilefish. » Full story « |
